OSIRIS SNR
CALCULATOR
This is the latest version (v1.3) of the OSIRIS SNR calculator
tool.
Upgrades from previous version (1.1):
- A bug in the 100% encircled energy fixed: now 100% encircled energy for point sources assumes aperture radius=3*seeing
- Aperture radius for point sources is included in the output
- Real broad-band data from June 2009 to January 2010 confirm that
estimations from this tool are correct, taken into account measurement
errors and variations in atmospheric extinction (REMEMBER that this
tool DOES NOT PREDICT atmospheric extinction or transparency: it uses mean observatory values). Accuracy of the calculator
is estimated to be better than 15%
- Some Order Sorter filters have been calibrated, and it is
also confirmed that this estimator is accurate to within 20% in direct
imaging mode (also taken into account measurement errors and
atmospheric extinction variations).
- Mean Red TF efficiency has been updated based on calibration observations.
- Grisms R300R, R500B, R500R, R1000B, R1000R, and R2000B have been calibrated and their efficiencies updated.
- Dark current (after changing the OSIRIS cryostat) has been measured and included in the calculator.
Not all the grisms or filters listed in this application are available. Visit the GTC OSIRIS page for more information.
Upgrades(from 1.2): Now it is possible to print the
output, including the SNR/pixel plot in spectroscopic mode, which has
also been improved.
Requisites:
- Java JRE 1.6 or later should be installed on
your
machine.
- You should set the JNLP MIME type on your
browser:
application/x-java-jnlp-file
to be opened either with the default
application or with javaws.
